When you are heading out on a camping trip or outdoor adventure the one thing that could turn that great weekend into a not-so-great trip is having no shelter because you dont have enough ropes, pegs or guy ropes.
Make sure you have accounted for how many poles, pegs and rope you will need and throw in a few extras just in case - its better have too many than not enough.
There are many different types of pegs, poles and guy ropes you can use, depending on the situation and purpose...
Use a ridge or spreader bar to give your tarp a peaked centre. This will ensure water doesn’t pool in the middle of your tarp.
Using springs in the guy ropes is a great idea as the springs will absorb the tension and allow the pegs to resist from pulling out of the ground.
It’s important to use the correct pegs for the type of ground you are setting up in. Use steel pegs for harder ground (such as hard dirt or soil) and polycarbonate pegs or sand pegs for loose soil or sand.
To add support and strength in windy or rainy conditions it’s a good idea to use slide rails or spreader bars in between upright poles.
